Our kit works best for small to medium sized chips and can dramatically transform a heavily chipped car into a pristine almost Car Show Room new condition . Used as directed, most repairs will dramatically improve your vehicle’s overall appearance.  We use a 3 foot rule when evaluating the repairs on the car.  In most cases the chipped panel’s repairs should be almost invisible from this distance.

How large a chip will the paint EFFECTIVELY REPAIR?

Chips much larger than a pea can still be repaired with our process and create good results. Larger areas can appear a bit less glossy.  We strongly recommend the use of one of our squeegees to address these larger chips.   Make sure you purchase one of our Squirt N Squeegee kits or purchase our Flex Clear squeegee or one of our multiple squeegee packs to give you the tools you will need on larger damage. You can still paint chips larger than this with quality results, but you may need to allow more drying time, use special care when removing the excess paint.  Larger chips that are on a leading edge of a panel may just need to have paint applied directly into the damage and left to dry.  Use of the Sealact in this case could dig into the repaired chip and remove the paint covering the damage.

The goal is to professionally blend in the chip repair so it doesn’t draw your eye to the chips.  The chips are not being removed from the panel.  They are being filled to a level that when viewing the panel from 3 feet the paint repairs should blend in very well and in many cases unnoticeable.   On smaller chips many customers will tell us the process made the chips “disappear”.  While we know the chips haven’t been removed from the car…..the idea that they appear to have disappeared is indicative of the quality of the Dr. ColorChip process.   In many cases its almost impossible to find where the chips were on the car.   Our Trademarked Road Rash kit allows you to address vehicles splattered with hundreds of small chips.  We see this with our clients who take their cars to the local racing tracks and come home with a hood and bumper or wheel wells pitted with countless tiny stone chips.  With our process, most of these tightly concentrated smaller chips are not visible at all after using your kit, leaving the overall look of the vehicle dramatically improved! 


With just one application, the Dr. ColorChip process for chips less than 2mm in diameter,   you should achieve a good fill of the chip.  Our customers ask us if they can achieve a better fill by building up the chip with a follow-up application.   The answer is Yes.  Larger chips very well might need a 2nd application to build up the layer that fills the chip.  You can wait a day to allow the first layer of paint a chance to harden, and then come back and do a 2nd application 24 hours later.   The expectation we want our customers to have going into the repair is that the chip will be slightly less than a 100% filled,  but from 3 feet will look really good!   We do tell our customers, the Dr. ColorChip process, while the best available solution to repair stone chip damage, it is not a replacement for dented heavily scraped panels with compromised flaking clearcoat that requires a body shop respray.  However, for chip damage and minor scratches, because our system allows the excess paint around the chip to be completely removed, you will realize that a total fill is usually not required to render a visually appealing repair. 



Scuff marks in most cases are simply a transfer of paint or some other substance from another car, possibly a pole,  concrete parking block or even a fire hydrant that comes in contact with your car and leaves its paint on your panel.  We commonly see this damage on bumpers and quarter panels where we accidentally in maneuvering our car in a tight area brush up against one of these items.  

If you see a different color on your car it in many cases can be removed by using a low strength acetone/finger nail polish remover applied to a “non dyed” cloth.  A dyed cloth may bleed the color of the dye onto your car so use a soft white terry cloth or some other soft white cotton rag.   Add a little of our Sealact to the acetone moistened rag to dilute the strength of the acetone and lightly wipe over the scuff.  In many cases the scuff can be completely removed.  If there is remaining damage that has actually penetrated the paint down to the panel that can be addressed with the Dr. ColorChip Touchup Kit.  


We have 20 years of history testing our paint product and are happy to tell you that it will aggressively grab and hold to most panel surfaces.  Make sure the surface has been cleaned with either our Dr. ColorPrep solution or rubbing alcohol to ensure a clean surface area before application of our paint. This will allow for the best possible adhesion to the surface of the chips or deep scratch.  


Chips that are allowed to go untreated often begin to rust and you will see the exposed rust in the chip. You can get a rust converter at most auto parts stores or even at a home supply store.   Our fine tipped microbrushes are excellent tools to carefully apply the rust converter to the rusted chip. Be careful not to get the rust converter on the clearcoat around the perimeter of the chip as that can haze the clearcoat. You can then use the Dr. ColorChip Touchup kit to fill the chips with the provided paint creating a moisture barrier to prevent further spread of the rust.
